Golden Gate
This was project was a bit of a mixture the gate comes from a larger project I did while I was at university for the City of Dis. I never liked the outcome of the project however I did love the model of the gate. I decided later on to re-texture the gate and I really loved the outcome. The gate was textured, modelled and lit in Maya.
Although the final outcome of the project wasn’t something I was happy with, I did really enjoy the process I went through to design the city. Below shows the original sketches, design and models.
The first part of the process was collecting photos I had taken and collaging them to create some interesting shapes. Number 36 is the one that inspired the design for the gate to the city.
I tidied up the collaged image, started sketching some designs for the doors, using bats as the main inspiration. Then went into Maya to Model the gate.
The final model of the gate looked a little ‘stale’ considering the process I went through to get to it. I went back into maya. Using bat silhouettes and extruding them up and twisting them around came up with some really interesting shapes which I incorporated into the design. Which also inspired the building shapes for the city.
Below are the building shapes I created, the final gate model and the final concept art I did in photoshop for the city.
